Hurricane Preparations

Caring for Trees Before the Storm

Trim trees and shrubbery regularly by cutting weak brunches and thinning foliage to decrease chances of uprooting.

Never attempt to trim any vegetation growing near power limes.  Only specially trained line-cleaning professionals should perform those duties.

Please refrain from trimming trees once a hurricane watch has been posted, as the trimmings become projectiles during the storm.

Remember never attempt to trim your own trees.  You should seek the assistance form a professional with the knowledge and equipment for the job.

After the Storm

If a tree has downed a powerline, CALL 911

Trees that have been overturned are not necessarily  lost.

If the fallen tree is large cover roots with soil and keep them moist and contact a professional  landscape or tree company for an evaluation.

If a  tree is small set it back into the hole, cover with soil, brace it and begin watering at least 3 times per week.

Remember, Broward County and Municipalities will only remove trees form public right(s) of way.

Before removing fallen trees call Sunshine State One 800-432-4770 to have utility lines located .  This is a free service to home owners in Florida.
